Dolly's parents, Annie Stuart Lowe and Henry Lowe lived with their family in the COURTS or courtyards of Liverpool, which were reputed to be some of the worst slums in northern England. They resided at Number Three Court, Eighth House, Laxey Street, in an area known as Toxteth Park, just a short distance east of the Brunswick Dock.
